A business made by and for truck drivers.
We are a family-owned business that is run by and for truck drivers. Jason Putney started Downeast Shipping in early 2016 after years of working as a company driver in the food service industry. We started with just two trucks and spent our first two years in business making every mistake imaginable. We booked some terrible freight, got involved with predatory finance companies, and worked ourselves to the bone. With each mistake we learned something new, and eventually we got pretty good at what we do.
We opened up Downeast Shipping to owner-operators in 2018. Our friend and colleague, Chris Paige, was the first person to take a leap of faith and sign his truck on with us. He continues to run his business alongside ours. Over time, we leased on other owner-operators and have built a community of independent business owners that work together to find the best freight. While Downeast Shipping does provide great employment for company drivers, the heart of what we do resides with owner-operator growth and success.
